Printed fish

Year 6 students began this project by sketching fish and adding detail.  These sketches were added onto a new product that I had not used before, called soft cut carving block.  The children found it extremely easy to carve into.
Once the image had been transferred onto the block the children printed 6-10 images of their fish in one colour and left these to dry.  During the next session they reworked the block adding more detail and used black printing ink.  They lay the block over the original coloured print . This was left to dry.
The next session involved the children cutting out their fish and positioning them onto coloured paper.  These were glued on.
I think that if I do this project again I will use larger blocks so that the children can add more detail.
